JJ Special

Here is nice old JJ Special track bike bought in by a customer Steve who is looking to move it on. Lugged frame with hand painted artwork and the name Terry Walmsley on the top tube.
Campy pista cranks and headset. Pre NJS Dura-ace hubs laced to Wolber 28h super competition tubular rims, tied and soldered. Cinelli bar and a leather ISCA saddle. Fork is not original and the stem and post could do with replacing to something more fitting but at $950 It is a nice period example.

Old Scrapper

So I was down at the waste transfer station in Moonee Ponds dumping boxes at the re-cycle bin.
And there was some guys emptying a big trailer into the steel bin. I grabbed this old 1 star from them befor it went.
Must be late 40's - early 50's.
What to do,, what to do,,

Project Cecil Walker

Great old frame and wheelset I picked up through the shop.
Cliff dropped in this old Cecil Walker path racer frame some time ago and I was always on the lookout for some parts to suit. Found this great set of Fiamme rims laced to a set of red Airlite hubs from Steve in Yarra Junction. 36 hole front, 40 hole rear, tied and soldered about 40 years ago. As you can see in the pics they have seen plenty of glue in their lifetime.
The frame has some pretty cool lugs and fork crown to suit. No resto on this one, more of a rat bike I think.

My new CX01 Crossmachine

Well I went and got myself one.
Yep it's a full carbon cyclocross bike from BMC. More or less a Team Machine for the bush.
Same basic spec as the CX02 which is 105 compact gear but I have added Dura-ace shifters and have a nice set of Fulcrum racing 3's to go in also.
After riding the CX02 at demo day I knew this was the bike for me.
At a retail of about $3700 thaey are awesome value.
I can't wait to get out in the mud.

Plug Component re-shuffle

Bit of  a semi-custom Plug for Russell.
You see his girl has a Freestyler and they can't be a fully matching pair now.
So all the gear off a Plug Racer onto a Freestyler gives you this sweet little one.

Forward Components Eccentric Bottom bracket install Part 2.

The BMC TE02 hardtail cross country frame comes standard with a 73mm shell width bottom bracket. The Forward Components unit is only suitable to be fitted to a standard 68mm shell so the BMC had to be faced down to correct size. I used a Cyclus tools bottom bracket facer.
The tool worked well enough but got some serious chatter going so the faces had to be hand finished to get nice and flat. Didn't take too long and with some patience and Inox it all came out well. With a 68mm bb this would not be necessary.

Next up, trimming the granny ring bosses off an XT crank.

Forward Components Eccentric Bottom bracket install

On friday we fitted and new Forward component eccentric bottom bracket assembly to Justin's BMC TE02 single speed race bike. This is a bit of a short diary of the process. As with all friday afternoon's it was interrupted by a steady flow of customers so I didn't get to photograph everything.
First is the BB unit itself.
Extremely well machined from stainless steel and 6061 alloy with Enduro bearings. Threads were particularly nice and as pointed out by Eric the man behind Forward Components, are ever so slightly over-size to make for a perfect fit. 6 hardened steel grub-screws are located radially to lock the outer alloy adjuster ring at the desired chain tension. 3 Alloy spacers are included to allow for proper crank spacing. I also made use of my shim kit for fine tuning.

Next up, facing the BMC TE02 73mm shell bottom bracket down to 68mm
