BMC 2009 ride day this Sunday....

This sunday the 23rd of November we will be having our first Cyclic Bicycles BMC ride day to introduce the new 2009 range to our customers.
Kicking of from 7:00am in the carpark on Boathouse Rd. just off Yarra Blvd.
Ride on down with you pedals and ID and sample what BMC has to offer for 2009.
Available to test will be the following machines.

The Steerfire SSX. Size available will be a medium, 55cm top tube.
All alloy frame with a BMC Straight blade carbon fork equipped with Shimano 105 running gear.

The SL01 Roadracer in Large size, 56.5mm top tube. All new alloy main frame with carbon seat stay and utilizing the all new BMC streampost 73.5 seatpost system. Full Shimano Ultegra running gear with Fulcrum 7 wheels.

Racemaster SLX01 in size 54cm. Alloy trident design utilizing the new bonded skeleton concept in unison with Easton CNT top/heat tube construction and CNT wishbone rear. Ultegra SL drivetrain with Fulcrum 5 wheels.

SLC01 Pro Machine in 55cm size.  The pinnacle of carbon frame design and materials. The only frame to use Easton 'carbon nano technology'. Seductive to say the least. Equipped with full Dura Ace drivetrain and Fulcrum 3 wheels. A true modern masterpiece.

TT02 Time Machine size medium. Alloy main frame with Easton carbon rear aero section and Easton EC90 SLX aero fork. Ultegra/FSA drive train with DT Swiss wheels. This is our triathlon hire bike available to be used by you for upcoming events.

CX02 Cross Machine size 54cm. I had so much fun riding this bike at the BMC dealer day last month I had to have it for our demo day here in Melbourne. In the wet on a tight Blue Mountains single track I was stunned at how versatile a bike could be. Traction in wet was incredible and the agility over the rocks was something else.

Bicycle Film Festival has come to town

With the start of the summer warmth also comes the international Bicycle film festival. I had such a blast at this event last year I am so looking forward to a repeat performance this year.
In conjunction with the Lee clothing store we have put together a sweet KHS fixie for the the event.

Simply purchase a pair of jeans and a Tee at their Chapel St. store and go into the draw to take it home. Or spend $100 and get a double pass to the bike's rock gig at the Hi Fi bar. 4 rippin' bands to get the show going.

New SSX Streetfire

Very similar to the new SL01 Roadracer is the SSX Streetfire. The new model that arrived yesterday in stunning white with green trim is sure to be a hit with those looking for a new bike with an entry level price tag with all of the design features of it's much more expensive siblings.
At first glance the frame is almost identical to the SL01 but a second look reveals the standard seat clamp design, external cable routing and the lack of CNT carbon rear wishbone.

Component specs include a full Shimano 105 drivetrain, at last a complete groupo. Matched with RS10 wheels wearing Conti Ultra Sport tyres. And once again there is the Scor Bar, Post and Stem. All up such a well put together package.

2009 SL01 Roadracer on the floor

We have now received our first few of the new 2009 model BMC bikes.
Starting with the all new Roadracer. The new bike is a complete rework of the older SL01 which is instantly recognized by the new trademark integrated skeleton concept seat cluster and streampost 73.5 seatpost system. With the downtube using up the full width of the bottom bracket shell and traditional T-section toptube using triple butted 7005 series Easton tubing, stiffness is no doubt going to be a high point of this new frame. The addition of the CNT whishbone seatstays and carbon streampost will smooth the ride well also.

Equipped with a full Ultegra drivetrain and using standard 53-39t chainrings and fitted with Fulcrum 7 wheels. Finished off nicely with BMC's Scor branded Bar stem and saddle. The bar is particularly comfortable and is very similar to an Easton EA70.

This along with all 2009 models will be available to test at our ride day.

Wednesday 15 October 2008

BMC 2009 model ride day.

With the first shipment of new BMC bikes only days away I am planning a small ride day for those who would like to test ride some of the new road models.
A tentative date of Sunday the 23rd of November in the close proximity of Kew boulevard is on the cards. I hope to have every model from the new Streetfire up to Pro Machine available.
Nothing like Oscar night, just small scale social introduction to the new range.
Ride preference will be given to those who choose to book a ride in advance.
BYO pedals and ride gear.
Contact me at the shop to express your interest.

New for the OZ market is the full carbon TE01 hardtail XC racebike. This a Pro Machine for the trails. As used by the current women's world marathon champion and designed for optimum power transmission and superb ride comfort.

2009 BMC SL01 Roadracer

The all new SL01 Roadracer also receives a redesign along the lines of the SLX01 with the integration of the streampost and carbon seatstay. Added is internal downtube cable routing and the airfoils seat tube. Available in orange or green and with a womens Shiver version in blue.
As with all the new models, we wont know the final build specs until delivery starts to flow through but word is that they will be equipped with full Ultegra build and carry Fulcrum 5 wheels.
BMC website images show 105 components, however I have been assured this is not the case for Australian model bikes.

Sunday 28 September 2008

2009 BMC Trailfox

Next up is the new 2009 Trailfox. This new model looks to be an almost complete rework of the previous model with a completely new tubeset and swingarm. Once again the crosslock cluster is gone to accommodate the new top tube and a new redesigned top link is used. Some smart touches are the markings on the seat tube and linkage to help the rider set up sag.

The new Trailfox comes in 3 built specs with the TF01 having 140mm of rear travel and the TF02 and TF03 having 120mm. Chainstays are a just a touch under 2cm shorter on the MY09 model Finish again looks outstanding and attention to the detail of function is as always the primary consideration.
More to come on this sensational new model form BMC.

2009 BMC range on it's way

Yesterday we were given the first glimpse of the new range of bikes and frames for 2009 with some models due in the next few weeks. Most have already seen or ridden the SLX01 Racemaster and will be happy to see some of the brilliant design innovations flowing down to other models.

First up is the all new SSX Streetfire. Taking it's styling from the Pro Machine, the new hyro-formed tube set offers more stiffness and gone is BMC's trademark cross-lock seat cluster for a more traditional arrangement. Also the seat stays are very similar to the SLX01 but are an alloy item. Not exactly sure of the final specs but will be based around Shimano 105 drivetrain and Retail for $2495.00

A couple of new Cube bikes have just hit the floor. First up is the Reaction hardtail MTB in racing red. XT cranks and derailers, LX shifters and Formula Oro brakes. New frame stuff

So I have been into Jem's ear about some new frame parts. Jem is from like butter and has done a couple of 3D models of some dropouts for SS/track frames. Would like some input on what is a good thing out of the designs he has done so far. Am looking at CNC from billet and laser cut tube sets. Feeback please.

What a week..

Well that was a busy week in the shop. Big thanks to EM for Saturday on the floor, really good to have you around. So many service bikes everywhere and lots of happy punters with the smell of spring in the air. Tony's Pro Machine with Sram red has come up a treat and he now has no excuses not jump up a grade.
Hats off to Big T for doing the Great Queensland bike ride and an Allegro M1 singlespeed. All 700+ km of it. Anyone who thinks they need 27 gears to get around fear not after that effort.
Next friday is Pirate goat night. Ride to the Goat dressed like a pirate. Not sure if I can get a Peg Leg to take a Time atac cleat though. Argh Argh mee arties...

Cranky Sundays blog

Here is a few friends of ours.

Tuesday 2 September 2008

Stainless lugged tourer

Here is a couple of pics of a jigged up lugged steel touring frame. Stainless slant lugs from Llewellyn and Columbus Nemo tubing. This is just for Richard of Allegro bikes. Just to see if the lugs have the right angles and all. The stumbling block is the BB shell. It will need to go and be replaced with a non-lugged item and fillet brazed. You can't see the dropouts but gee they're nice Dazza.
It's nice having a distraction from the shop out in the shed. A bloke needs his shed you know. Maybe I should make a new ride for myself.

Tuesday 26 August 2008

New season Allegro bikes on the floor.

It is fast approaching the warmer months but you wouldn't know it with the cold spell we have been having. We have some new Allegro bikes on the floor for the commuters out there looking for something light and simple to rip into work. As always the Onya 1's and the new style M2. Also we have already been through a few Nedi 2's. These new Cro Mo framed single speeds offer such versatility. They come delivered as a single speed but now have the options of horizontal drop outs and a derailer hanger. We have done 3 9-speed conversions so far to these little rippers. We also fit an hydraulic front brake. Yep, they also have disc compatable hubs and disc mounts as well as v-brake mounts on the frame and fork. Other new additions to the range are the Onya 3 with a 3-speed internal gear hub. We sell them fitted with a panier rack for $825 ride away.

Come and join the ride to the Mountain Goat brewery in Richmond.
Party'c'pants get the spoils for their toils.
6pm start time.

Friday 8 August 2008

SLX01 first ride.

Well after 3 hours on the floor it seemed like the only decent thing to do was to take the new SLX 01 on our regular Friday ride. After clearing the days service work I put the new beast together as it came out of the box other than  changing the brakes over to right hand front. The instructions for setting the new streampost were somewhat vague to say the least. One thing that didn't help was the alignment marks on either side of the carbon section were both at different heights so which one to pick? After a phone call to 'the man' I discovered that there was some indescrepencies with the decals on the first few early release framesets. With that in mind I used a bit of common sense and all was swinging in no time. The whole setup really is so easy to adjust once you get things set right. I expected something much heavier and more cumbersome but no, the whole post assembly is light and very functional. One thing about the new SLX that could catch a few out is like on the Team machine, the shift cables can become crossed in the down tube as mine were. No real problem as the internal cable routing easy to sort but you do need to check for it.

I should say here that we weighed the bike at 8.26kg with no pedals or grip tape for a 54cm sized bike as supplied. No doubt there will be some variation across the range.

The first 12km of the ride were damp and still raining slightly. Even so the bike felt very positive and I was confident pushing it a bit though wet corners. I didn't like the gearing for city riding but hat is not what this machine is for at all. Acceleration was brisk from a stand still and better if already at speed. After taking care of business formatlities at the Mountain Goat Brewery it was another short backstreet shuffle with a quick sprit here and there. I left the Gem Bar and the Gravytrain singing songs about ghosts, vampires and zombies. There is someting about a band with a guy playing 3 feet of chain with a claw hammer that make friday night rides just a bit different.

Off into town to play with the late night traffic and see how things go in a different type of pack. The front end felt well planted across the rugged Melbourne road and although you could tell the front fork had an alloy top end it wasn't as rough as other alloy steerer forks I have ridden. This is probably due to the beautiful frame. And What a beauty it is.
You can feel the stiffness in the bottom end and at the same time you can feel the suppleness in the carbon top/headtube combination. It does like to be ridden fast. Cruising around at a steady pace can be comfortable but not enjoyable. I enjoyed going quicker that I normally would in certain situations.

After checking the time to see it was just shy of midnight I though I would take an older yet familiar route home to get a comparison to what I have ridden over the same ground before. Out through South Melbourne firsts then back though Docklands, over towards Footscray then up along the Maribyrnong river. A steady headwind prevailed for 5km with not a huge amount of effort needed to push into it. Once at the trail along the river and the wind losing its effect it was easy to crank up the SLX along the tight winding path and make quick time. The handling of the bike really showed on the twisty river side route. At the end of the river trail there is a couple of short sharp climbs that the new bike just powered up with ease. Those who like to climb will find an instant liking to this frameset.

The 54cm was one size too small for me so I do look forward to trying a 56cm on for size.
I hope to have a couple of club racers take this one out for a spin and give a better review from a competitive point of view.
Stay tuned.

BMC SLX 01 Demo bike is on the floor....

'57 Speedwell resto job.

This some pics of a semi resto on a 1957 Speedwell that Flynn brought in to us. Just a lovely piece of Australian bike history. Clear coated over the rusty patina looks a treat. More of it I say.

I'll split the difference with ya....

Now this is getting value or money. Brake pads worn though the rim surface.  This happened to a guy while riding and luckily he didn't take a tumble.

Saturday 19 July 2008

BMC Trailfox test bike for demo rides.

In the next couple of weeks we will have one of BMC's demo Trailfox dualies available for extended test rides. Not sure what the build spec will be, either XT or Sram XO and in 19 inch. Feel free to contact the shop to book a time to take it for a spin.

Sunday 13 July 2008

BMC SLX 01 Demo bike...

We have been fortunate to secure one of the first Racemaster SLX01's in an early release. Due in a week or 2 we will be putting this bike on the floor as a demonstrator. We will be taking bookings for extended test rides as soon as this first bike hits our floor. The new model will be offered in 2 colour scheme's being the black, white and blue as pictured and a black and yellow option that I am yet to see. The geometry is said to be virtually identical to the SL01 Roadracer and it draws technical touches from the various other BMC models. The same internal shift cable routing from the Team Machine and head tube design feature similar to the Pro Machine. As with all BMC models it shows a fantastic level of finish and design.

Vive Le Tour!!!

We are now getting into the spirit of the tour de France. The leader board is put up daily on the front window and we are taking 10% minmum of all road bikes for the duration.
